Here, you can see where the plaster has been cleared out beneath the cut; you can peer into the dark mysteries of the wall, as revealed by removing the lath strip (the lowest strip is, as mentioned, still in place). A stray piece of lath can be seen to the left; the large chunk of plaster on the floor in the center of the picture clearly shows a ridge where it was once keyed to the lath.
